Dirty Produce

For the past seven years, the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a public health advocacy group, has published a list of the "Dirty Dozen," twelve of what they deem to be the most unsafe foods due to pesticide content. This year it comes with a dose of irony. The icon of health, an apple (one a day should keep the doctor away), is at the top of the list.

Following apples in the list of "dirty" produce are
celery
strawberries
peaches
spinach
nectarines (imported)
grapes (imported)
sweet bell peppers
potatoes
blueberries
lettuce
kale/collard greens.
